Flare gets NFT platform to increase use cases for interoperability protocols

The layer one for data, Flare, just completed a live demonstration of new interoperability functionality now available in beta on the network.

Using two core interoperability protocols, State Connector and FTSO (Flare Time Series Oracle), an NFT was trustlessly purchased with the transaction taking place on a different chain using a different token. The demo was performed on Flare’s canary network, Songbird, with the purchase made using DOGE and XRP tokens.
Flare’s State Connector protocols enable information – both from other blockchains and the internet – to be used securely, scalably and trustlessly with EVM-based smart contracts on Flare chains.
In this case, it has been used to prove that a transaction has been confirmed on a non-Flare chain and simultaneously verify the correct payment reference was included.
The Flare Time Series Oracle delivers highly decentralized price and data feeds to DApps on Flare –without relying on a centralized provider to bring the data on-chain. For the demonstration, it provides the live updating price of the NFT in the currency of the other chain.
As Flare is an EVM-based blockchain, everything that can be achieved on Ethereum and other EVM chains can also be performed on Flare.
The NFTs minted in the demo are therefore standard ERC721 contracts written in Solidity and deployed on the network. The only changes required were the addition of methods to integrate with the FTSO and State Connector.

Trustlessly Purchasing an NFT on Flare Using the Token of a Different Blockchain

Flare Partners With Blockchain Security Specialist FYEO For Ongoing Audits

The two-year-long awaited Flare token (FLR) airdrop distribution finally came through for Ripple XRP holders. The distribution started on January 10 at a ratio of 1.0073 FLR for each XRP token. As a result, the XRP community received 15% of the Flare supply.
However, David Schwartz, Ripple CTO, appears displeased about it. In a recent tweet, he claims the current holding rules for Flare tokens lack incentive. As a result, Schwartz enjoined the airdrop receivers to sell their Flare tokens quickly.

What is Flare Token?
Flare token is the native cryptocurrency of the Flare Network. Flare is a layer-1 Ethereum Virtual Machine blockchain that enables developers to build decentralized applications interoperable with different blockchains.
Flare tokens may be used for payments, transaction fees to avoid spam attacks, and staking on validator nodes. FLR can be wrapped into WFLR, an ERC-20 variant. Users can stake WFLR tokens to participate in governance or delegate to FTSO data providers.
Flare Network protocol launched on July 11, 2020, while its token went live on January 9, 2023. The Network posted a live feed on Twitter showing the countdown to the airdrop distribution event. They started releasing airdrops after capturing snapshots of XRP holders for over two years.
Flare Network announced in October that XRP holders would receive a 15% airdrop of the FLR tokens. Users with a minimum of 10 XRP coins during the snapshot would be eligible to receive Flare tokens from the airdrops.
According to Flare’s first Improvement Proposal, there would be an airdrop of 4.28 billion FLR tokens. Users that wrap their FLR tokens will receive another 24.23 billion FLR in regular installments over 36 months.
Why Does Schwartz Want XRP Holders To Sell Flare Tokens?
CoinGecko data shows that the Flare token began trading on January 10 at $0.05 on the MeXC exchange. After launch, the price rose to $0.15 when Binance, Kraken, OKX, and other exchanges started trading it.
But its price started crashing shortly after receiving increased liquidity from centralized exchanges. As a result, FLR price has corrected to $0.04234, a 71.8% decline from its all-time high. It has a 24-hour trading volume of $72.35 million, according to CoinMarketCap.
Although the airdrop provided XRP holders with FLR tokens free of charge, prompt selling is peculiar to nearly all airdrops. This aligns with Schwartz’s view about the recent airdrop. The CTO stated that Flare holders won’t incur any loss if they sell their tokens now.

Schwartz explained that sellers are not entitled to more airdrops. But receivers would get 100% value when they sell their FLR tokens because buyers can wrap the Flare and get the airdrop.
The CTO further expressed his displeasure towards the Flare Network. He noted that by only releasing 15% of all it promised initially, the Network didn’t intend to keep its commitment to the XRP community.

The Ripple executive said he feels bad because he loved the Flare project and wished the best for it. But, in his opinion, Flare leveraged the XRP community to develop but failed its promises when it didn’t see the need to keep them.

Flare Airdrop Receivers Should Sell Quickly, Says Ripple CTO

Ripple CTO David Schwartz voiced harsh criticism against the Flare Network in a series of tweets today. After more than two years following the snapshot for XRP holders, the project finally conducted its airdrop for the FLR token on Monday, January 9.
As NewsBTC reported, the FLR token already experienced a massive dump of more than 71% on Bitrue in the run-up to the airdrop, where the token could already be traded as IOU. After that, things didn’t get much better and FLR dropped even further, totaling a loss of 93% since Sunday, January 8. At press time, FLR was trading at $0.0437.
Thus, the FLR price is in no man’s land. The IOU on the token debuted back in January 2021 at Bitrue and started at a price of $0.0831. After that, the FLR token went up to $2.2472. At no point did FLR trade below its January 2021 debut price.

Ripple CTO Raises Harsh Allegations Against Flare Team
Via Twitter, Ripple’s chief technology officer wrote that the current rules for holding Flare for subsequent airdrops provide absolutely no incentive not to sell Flare now. “You lose *nothing* if you sell now,” Schwartz said.
He added that while it’s true that XRP holders miss out on subsequent airdrops, you don’t lose them. As the Ripple CTO explained, you can get 100% of their value if you sell your Flare, as the buyer can wrap the token and get the airdrops.

In general, Schwartz considers the distribution of the airdrop “a very strange decision.” For a long time, the project advertised that XRP holders would receive the full amount of FLR tokens right away.
However, the team did not keep its promise. They declared that with the first airdrop, only 15% of the total amount of 1.0073 FLR will be distributed for each XRP. The remaining 85% of FLR tokens will be airdropped in 36 monthly installments, with the method of distribution still dependent on a community vote.

Schwartz sees this as a breach of their commitment. “I want to be wrong, but I don’t see how,” the Ripple CTO said, following up with another serious allegation:
I feel bad saying this. I love the project and want the best for it and want to believe the best about it. But my honest opinion is that they leveraged the XRP community to grow and weakened their promises drastically when they felt they didn’t need it anymore.
While Schwartz qualified his statement in the following tweet when he wrote that this doesn’t mean they are “dishonest or that their project is bad,” he also said that XRP has evolved while the Flare Network team “failed to deliver on some promises” from the early days.
You can love Flare and love XRP too. It’s not one or the other. But I don’t have happy fuzzy feelings about how it went down.
Schwartz Advises To Sell The FLR Token (Later)
In response to a user’s follow-up question about whether it is now the best time to “take profits,” Schwartz replied:
I’m not saying people should sell. I’m just saying that they are acting irrationally if they don’t sell because they want the value of the remaining 85% of the airdrop. That’s just not rational.
Another user countered the argument by saying that FLR is already “worthless” after the massive crash, so owners of the token should rather wait. The Ripple CTO agreed, citing that “now is probably the worst time to sell. It would be kind of silly not to wait that out.”
